Illustrative Blackwork

TYSON

Tyson is the founder of 18b Tattoo and a veteran artist in the Downtown Las Vegas Arts District with over 16 years of professional experience. Originally from San Diego, Tyson began his artistic career early, working as a caricature artist at local theme parks from age 16 through 24. This high-pressure, fast-paced background developed the foundational skills that define his work today: exceptional speed with total control, anatomical accuracy, and an instinctual ability to translate a client’s vision into a clean, impactful visual.

After completing his studies in illustration at art school, Tyson relocated to Las Vegas with an initial plan to stay for two years. More than a decade and a half later, he has become a fixture in the Downtown Las Vegas tattoo scene, dedicated to the craft of custom tattooing in the heart of the 18b Arts District.

As an illustrator first, Tyson’s tattooing is rooted in custom illustrative work, with a heavy emphasis on illustrative blackwork. His technical versatility allows him to execute a wide range of styles effectively, including black and grey, watercolor tattoos, and fine line work. Regardless of the style, he approaches every project through the lens of a professional illustrator—prioritizing composition, technical clarity, and how the tattoo will age over time in the dry Las Vegas climate.

Working out of 18b Tattoo, Tyson has built an environment away from the “resort corridor” noise, focusing on the history and growth of the 18-block Arts District. He values the intersection of technical discipline and the “underground” ethos of owner-led shops, ensuring that every collector or first-time client receives a focused, attentive experience.

Outside of the studio, Tyson is a husband and father to two daughters. With a wife who also works in design, creativity is a fundamental part of his household. Their dog, Mowgli, serves as the family mascot, and between his busy studio schedule and his family life, Tyson stays active and engaged with the Downtown Las Vegas community he has called home for nearly two decades.
